Unlike dumbbells, kettle bells are constructed with an uneven weight distribution and offset center of gravity, compelling users to rely on their own counterbalancing and stabilization. In fact, one American Council on Exercise study indicated twice-weekly KB training can improve aerobic capacity by 14% and core strength by 70%.

Besides strength, cardio and uncuffed floors, kettle bells also deliver enhanced functionality and fat burning. It’s the same burn rate (20 calories a minute) you’d achieve running a six-minute mile, but you won’t need a track, just the corner of a room.

Work on technique first and once you’ve developed it, do not sacrifice form to perform extra reps or go up (usually in 4 kg increments). During our workshops and certifications, I'm often asked which kettle bell I enjoy working with or prefer the most.

If you prefer to work with a competition style kettle bell, I think you'll enjoy this model very much. Again, they have sweet flat black finish that's very functional and holds up very well.

The American Council on Exercise reports that kettle bell training can produce twice the benefits in half the time of traditional weightlifting. Unlike workouts with barbells and dumbbells, kettle bell training uses dynamic movements that require stability and core control and combine several muscle groups in one exercise.

The variations of kettle bell training are effective for full and total-body workouts that you can do two to six times a week, but they can also complement any existing cardiovascular or weight-training program. Two to three workouts a week allows for more recovery time since soreness can be expected, particularly with each new movement you learn.

Kettle bell training incorporates movements that many fitness enthusiasts, even avid weightlifters, don't regularly use. However, because kettle bells use many big compound movements, such as a clean and push press, that activate several major muscle groups, it's best to schedule at least one but preferably two days off a week for recovery time.

At this level, the kettle bell gets heavier and the combinations become more advanced, such as a roll back to a press. Advice on buying a kettle bell | Sierraexerciseclick on the image above to go to www.sierraexercise.com Feel free to discuss all aspects of Fitness.

Beastly! I remember seeing videos a number of years ago showing DIY Bulgarian bags made from free used tire inner tubes, but this one has some nice handles. When the first bag was delivered I took it out of the box and after admiring it I started swinging it around in the living room.

So I now have 2 Bulgarian bags in my dining room that are used with my Indian Clubs and Bull worker's as part of my 'morning coffee' routine MBS, After swinging your new k'bell for a while take a look at another excellent exercise tool for a different but just as functional version of 'swinging', the Bulgarian Bag.

I recently purchased 2 of them from Titan Fitness and absolutely love the movement... That may be the best tool on the market for training rotational muscles and gaining strength and power in multi planes of movement.

Are they THAT much better to justify the price?in theory, if you have a heavy (relative to your strength levels) KB for swings, and a Bulgarian bag (or two+), that may be all you ever need to cultivate strength and power, and enhanced mobility? Been doing some swings with a 25 lb hex dumbbell, to practice the movement. I know from my jobs my hands are calloused and rough.

JEEZ... Just when I thought I was safe from buying anything else.... oh boy, Ivan's a damned genius !!! I may give some thought to a DIY version. Pete Wagner has sand bags with ropes and PVC handles, but he doesn't work them like a kettle bell.

I know from my jobs my hands are calloused and rough. I've been called,”sand paper hands” by people. I seldom use chalk but I carry it in my gym bag.

It’s helpful for high volume outdoor KB workouts on a hot day when my palms can get sweaty and my grip is compromised. Can think of one or two workouts that I had to abort because of sweaty palms.

When I trained in the Olympic lifts, everyone used chalk. I think it’s an inexpensive training supply to have and carry for those once-in-awhile special needs situations.

Might have to show some pictures to some metal shops in my area and ask how much it would cost to make something similar from an Olympic plate.
